Singapore International Water Week

Address challenges. Showcase innovations. Discover opportunities. Celebrate achievements. All these at one of the largest and most important global water solutions events. Singapore International Water Week 2010 edition promises to be bigger and better, focusing on the need for efficient and cost effective water solutions to provide safe drinking water at an affordable price amidst a constantly changing environment.

As a global platform for water solutions, the Singapore International Water Week leverages Singapore’s position as a hydrohub and financial centre, and its urban water management experience, to bring together the entire water world. At the Water Week, delegates are offered a unique platform where they can discover business opportunities, address challenges, showcase technologies and celebrate achievements in inspiring and realising water solutions.

Discover Opportunities
In line with the Water Week’s global outlook and market-centric approach, eight Business Forums – presenting the water industry with business networking and partnership opportunities in strategic water markets – will be held. Through the sharing of best practices, perspectives and solutions, private and public sector industry players can identify business opportunities and viable investment prospects. Financing water innovations and technologies will be among the issues to be discussed at the event.

Address Challenges
More than 300 high-level delegates focused on discussing water challenges as a full cycle when they attended the Water Leaders Summit during the Water Week last year. Water is no longer a standalone concern as leaders recognised the widespread bearing that the water cycle has on food, energy, industrial production, health, political relationships, economy and security.

Understanding the areas which needed urgent rectification is a key first step towards the advancement of sustainable water solutions around the world. The high-level Water Leaders Summit for distinguished government and water industry leaders, top academics and practitioners continues to bring the best minds together this year as they engage in solutions-focused dialogue on critical water governance, technology and business issues that impact communities worldwide, providing the impetus for innovations to address these challenges.

Delivering low-cost, high-quality water ranks high on the list of pressing needs in today’s water world. Together with the International Water Association, the Water Convention at the Water Week brings together water industry experts, researchers, academics and practitioners to share their knowledge and expertise across the spectrum of water strategies, technologies, processes and systems so as to address such issues.

Showcase Technologies
Underscoring its holistic solutions-focused approach, the Water Week will not only provide the platform for dialogue on water imperatives but also inspire action in the development and use of new and enhanced technologies. As part of the Water Week, the Water Expo efficiently matches water demands with practical solutions, and also drives the development of new, enhanced innovations for the future.

An exciting showcase can be expected at the 2010 event, with over 90% of the exhibition space already sold. Over 450 business-savvy water companies have made the Water Expo their choice platform to showcase best practices and practical applications of water technologies, recognising the Water Expo as a key platform to reach out to the water world.

Celebrate Achievements
These flagship events culminate in the presentation of the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize, which recognises revolutionary water innovations and policies that benefit humanity. This year, the award will be presented to the Yellow River Conservancy Commission for its unprecedented achievements in integrated river basin management efforts, which has transformed the Yellow River and enabled it to flow unabated for 10 years. Over a hundred million people who depend on the Yellow River now enjoy an improved and reliable supply of water for domestic use, agricultural irrigation and industrial consumption. A record number of 50 nominations for the 2010 Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize were received, compared to 39 nominations in the previous two years.

As the industry continues to recover from the recession, more water experts, including policy makers, industry leaders and practitioners will place greater value in global industry platforms such as the Singapore International Water Week in facilitating business opportunities and catalysing the industry’s advancement. Building on its success, Singapore will host a bigger and better Singapore International Water Week from 28 June to 2 July 2010 at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre.
